The Center for Research, Technology and Innovation of the University of Seville(CITIUS) provides functional and instrumental support to the development of research, technology and innovation activities. It offers integrated answers to real problems. It provides highly complex test results, makes high-performance facilities available to users, manages and coordinates research and innovation projects with companies, teaches specialized courses, carries out scientific dissemination tasks, and much more.
The University of Seville created CITIUS in 2004 as a way to optimize the operation of its General Research Services, as part of an overall strategy to strengthen the Science-Technology-Business system.
CITIUS is, therefore, one of the agents on which the R&D&I of the University of Seville is articulated, supporting both the University itself and other Public Research Organizations (OPI), as well as companies. They grant the use of state-of-the-art scientific-technological equipment.
Within the Analysis and Testing area, it offers several services, including microscopy. This is a fundamental characterization tool in fields ranging from Materials Science and Engineering to Biology, Archeology, Pharmacy, Chemistry or Medicine, among many others.
For this purpose, it has two laboratories with the necessary equipment for the preparation of both organic and inorganic samples, as well as a multitude of microscopes with various electron microscopy techniques (transmission, scanning, FIB, analytical techniques, etc.), optical microscopy (confocal, epifluorescence, interferometric) and atomic force microscopy (AFM/STM), being, overall, among the best equipped in Spain.
To complement all the technologies of the microscopy service it already had, it decided to rely on Álava Ingenieros and acquired a Raman microscope, an equipment for particle characterization. Its main advantage is that it is a highly automated equipment, capable of obtaining measurements much faster than other similar ones. In this case, given its versatility, it will provide service to all the university's researchers.
