On November 16, the State of Texas inaugurated one of the largest infrastructures ever built in the state. We are talking about the expansion and improvement of Speed Highway 288, a structural highway that runs 61 miles through the southeast of the state of Texas, from Huston to Freeport. After these improvements, SH-288 connects the cities of Houston, Pearland, Fresno, Manvel, Bonney, Chenango, Angleton, Richwood, Lake Jackson, Clute and Freeport.

SH-288 is of vital importance to this developing region. It serves not only as a thoroughfare for travelers and freight, but also as an evacuation route in the event of hurricanes. It will also improve access to the Texas Medical Center.

Although the original design dates back to 1939, the route has been modified several times due to population growth in Brazoria and Harris counties. Even so, the increase in traffic over the past few years has made the project to widen and improve this infrastructure a necessity.

A PROJECT DESIGNED FOR THE FUTURE

We can say that SH-288 is an example of innovation in infrastructure thanks to the integration of the toll road to the conventional infrastructure. And not only that, its new layout and improved crossings make it a very valuable element for the structuring of the territory in the State of Texas.

In addition, the project design anticipates future expansions in the event that these improvements are not sufficient to meet the needs of this developing region. Specifically, a future extension of two new side lanes is planned for all sections of the conventional highway.
