We thank you for taking the time to read our technical magazine Preditécnico in its 23rd edition. As every edition, it has been prepared with all our enthusiasm and trusting that the information provided will be useful.
The world of industrial reliability continues to evolve in the early years of the 21st century. Today, more than ever, we have become aware of the importance of business competitiveness. We know that organizations that do not focus on productivity will be overtaken by their competitors and will disappear.
The modern concepts of Industry 4.0, IIoT and Big Data that are so fashionable today are reviving interest in predictive maintenance. Sensors connected to monitoring platforms provide information about the health of machines, this information is used to optimize the maintenance of critical production assets.
The ISO 55001 Asset Management standard advises to optimize maintenance tasks to maximize availability and reliability while containing costs. The predictive strategy is the smartest way to optimize maintenance tasks, i.e., maintenance tasks are scheduled only when they are needed, so this strategy should be applied whenever technically and economically possible.
We are hopeful that the increased demand for condition monitoring technologies will lead to lower prices for these technologies, as has already happened with thermography, and this will result in the popularization, or as some say "democratization" of machine monitoring technology.
