PROJECT OBJECTIVE

AIRBUS clean room optimization control

The purpose of this project is the installation of ten particle counters to be located in the AIRBUS clean room (ISO 8) located in Getafe, which produces several satellite parts, complying with the requirements of the ECSS-Q-ST-70-01C standard.

Companies such as Airbus use these clean rooms to carry out critical and highly specialized operations in the production and assembly of aerospace components. These environments demand controlled, particle-free conditions to ensure the integrity and quality excellence of products such as aircraft and satellites.

Date of execution:

From 2024 - present

Location:

Madrid, Spain.

Sector:

Defense and Aerospace

Client:

How we made it happen

Supply and install monitoring system.

Grupo Álava, after being awarded the project, has supplied all the technical support required, as well as including the configuration of the equipment, start-up, software operation and maintenance of the equipment to ensure its correct operation in the measurement of particles, temperature, humidity and differential pressure.

For this purpose, Grupo Álava has installed nine fixed non-viable particle counters located throughout the room, adapted to the ISO 08 standard, and an additional unit to be used as a backup unit during calibration periods.

The implemented hardware includes the following items: Lighthouse APEX R5P particle counter; Lighthouse temperature and humidity sensor model HF132-LH-WB1X; Lighthouse Air Flow sensor model EE660; Lighthouse differential pressure sensor model LH3-DP-100/100 and thermometer-hygrometer with external sensor model GF250A.

The control panel supplied has a series of converters and connection modules needed to connect the particle counters, temperature/humidity and pressure sensors to condition the different signals and connect them to the server where the monitoring software is hosted.

They will also have Lighthouse model ALB-ceiling-3 luminous beacons (3 states), whose function is to light up when one or more of the particle counters detects a level higher than the warning or the configured level alarm.

Within Airbus facilities, clean rooms are used for various phases of the manufacturing process, ranging from the development of delicate electronic components to the assembly of complex systems, as well as instrumentation and satellite testing. These activities demand an extremely clean and controlled environment, ensuring the most rigorous standards in the aerospace industry.

RESULTS AND ACHIEVEMENTS

Adaptable and flexible technology

  • With the new Micropoint II detection system, among other achievements:
  • To be able to detect any intrusion attempt that occurs, as an early warning to be able to counter the threat efficiently.
  • Locate the point of intrusion so that the reaction is as effective as possible, recognizing and verifying the alleged intrusion as a possible threat to the integrity of the military base compound.
  • Have consistent and robust 24/7 operation in the short, medium and long term.
  • Maximum detection reliability has been achieved by detecting each and every intrusion attempt over time, including multiple intrusion attempts.
  • Actively monitor the condition of the fence on an ongoing basis, with continuous recording of any mechanical incidents that occur.
  • Fictitious alarms due to adverse weather effects (heavy rain, hail, wind...) have been eliminated, thanks to logical filters based on the cable sensors.
  • The alarms have been adjusted to the peculiarities of the perimeter of the Araca Military Base, programming them between 1 meter (minimum) and 200 meters (maximum), in steps of 1 meter.
  • A particularly low vulnerability index and a negligible rate of false alarms and/or fictitious alarms have been achieved.
