PROJECT OBJECTIVE
New European Union Airport Security Framework
AENA, the company in charge of managing Spain's airport network, organized an international public tender (for the supply, installation, commissioning, training and maintenance of the most innovative equipment available on the market capable of meeting the new European Union airport security framework.
The objective of the project is to provide an explosives trace detection and inspection network capable of fully complying with the new European Civil Aviation Conference's (ECAC) airport security regulations.
How we made it happen
Chemical element analyzers
The solution provided by the Alava Group is the supply of 290 Itermiser 4DX chemical element analyzers based on Ion Trap Mobility Spectrometer (ITMS) technology for 20 airports in the Spanish network.
These systems are capable of performing a reliable analysis in less than eight seconds, making their use of vital importance at different airport checkpoints: inspection of people and hand luggage at boarding filters, control of airport personnel working in restricted areas, inspection of cargo at the dispatch and reception points of cargo terminals, and inspection of passengers and air cargo at airlines.
This device is capable of detecting, identifying and analyzing chemical traces of explosives on skin, clothing, transported items, luggage, vehicles and other surfaces, making them the ideal equipment to reliably protect travelers and workers not only in the airport network or cargo terminals, but also optimal for other critical infrastructures or for use by security forces.

RESULTS AND ACHIEVEMENTS
Coordination and staff
The main challenge of the project is the need to install and commission the first 165 units in less than 15 days so that our client could comply with European regulations, which were coming into force imminently.
In addition, the maintenance service required by the customer requires 24-hour coverage with very demanding response times ranging from 2 to 8 hours, which requires an exclusive incident management infrastructure and a customer service capable of receiving warnings and coordinating preventive and corrective actions.
