PROJECT OBJECTIVE
Developments in aircraft electrical technology
The ESCAPHIB project aims at the research, validation and verification of four new developments that are part of the aircraft electrical technology applied in the E-Fan X hybrid aircraft demonstrator developed by AIRBUS. These blocks are developed around: the high efficiency cooling system; the intake and exhaust of a high power generation system; the high capacity battery gas evacuation and protection system; and the development of new boundary layer configurations in tail cones.
The project seeks to investigate how these blocks can be technologically improved, perform validations of the developments and verify these new systems on the ground and, some of them, in flight.
Led by AIRBUS Operations SL, a world leader in the design and manufacture of aircraft, in consortium with the European companies Álava Ingenieros (Spain), Altran (France), CESA (Spain) and Airgrup (Spain), as well as with the collaboration of different European research organizations and technology centers.

How we made it happen
Fire detection technology
The participation of Álava Ingenieros S.A. in this project is focused on the development of proprietary solutions for fire detection by means of optical fiber, on the one hand, and on the other hand, systems for detecting the thermal runaway phenomenon in lithium batteries.
Although these developments are especially designed for the aeronautical market, they can serve as a basis for other projects in sectors such as the automotive industry, where Álava Ingenieros already has a solid track record.
