Predictive maintenance is based on scheduling maintenance tasks only when they are needed.
To determine when it is necessary to intervene and perform maintenance tasks on an asset, periodic inspections are scheduled using predictive techniques such as vibration measurement and analysis, ultrasound, thermography, oil analysis, etc. The predictive maintenance strategy is much more efficient and safer than other strategies, such as preventive maintenance based on operating hours, which is probably the most widespread maintenance strategy, together with maintenance at failure.
