mechanical_vibrations.jpgBook: Mechanical Vibrations

Today, our production processes are under increasing pressure to compete more efficiently, both in terms of lowering costs and increasing production volume, as well as making higher quality products, taking care of the safety of our workers and respecting the environment. The question is obvious: How can we ensure all this?

"An excellent book. Brynjolfsson and McAfee combine their knowledge of rapidly evolving digital technologies and economics to give us a colorful and accessible picture of the dynamic forces that are shaping our lives, our jobs, and our economies. For those who want to learn to "Race with the Machines," his book is a great place to start."
Michael Spence, winner of the 2001 Nobel Prize in Economics.

article_termo_alava.jpgArticle: Specular reflection of infrared radiation: major misunderstandings, by Rafael Royo

There is much confusion about the concept of reflectivity. It is normal to assume that surfaces with specular reflection have a high reflectivity, and therefore those that do not behave as a mirror, have a low reflectivity. The objective of this work is to show in a practical way that it is very common to have surfaces with low reflectivity but with specular reflection, and to compare it with the behavior of specular surfaces with high reflectivity. On the other hand, it is demonstrated that it is possible to measure temperatures on specular surfaces, even if "false hot spots" appear. Finally, a method is proposed to determine the emissivity of specular surfaces with low emissivity, down to values even lower than 0.1.

With the freedom granted by the placement of the action in a future time, Miguelanxo Prado (A Coruña, 1958) draws on this album, immersing the keys of dystopian science fiction, a society based on consumption and prevailing racism, corruption and uncontrolled destruction natural resources. With hard and cruel discourse at times, but not without certain signs comedians attended the hobbies and obsessions of all beings that make up these layers so narrowly defined, from the lowest level, that of the "proles", composed of up to eight people who, in the shadow of economic power, control all governments around the world. An intelligent and functional narrative construction backed by an impressive graphic display of resources continues to captivate, despite the time elapsed since its first appearance in installments in the pages of the magazine and later as album Zona84 in 1987, perhaps because it is one of the good science fiction stories that act as a mirror of what we are.
