The partial discharge study technique is applied to large electrical machines to evaluate the condition of the stator with the machine in service.
The partial discharge technique has been known for more than 30 years and is gradually becoming the most widely applied technique for medium voltage insulation systems, as it is the only technique that allows the insulation of a rotating machine in operation to be evaluated. The measuring equipment, initially analog, has also undergone a revolution to become compatible with all applications of electrical equipment (motors and alternators, cables, switches, ...), offering the following information:
Supervision parameters:
- Apparent discharge (pC)
- Leakage Current (nA)
Diagnostic Charts:
- PDA (Pulse amplitude distribution)
- PRPD (Pulse distribution by amplitude and phase, or "fingerprint")
